my husband

my husband created my new banner.  he's so wonderful!
the thousand little things he does add up to the moon. :)
he encourages me and makes me laugh.
we've designed a beautiful home together and
love peace and play in our relationship.
we both love water - and enjoy swimming
and sailing. we love summer and heat and so
we never fight about the temperature in our home
because we both like being warm.
we are both german (well i'm half german and
then a mix of irish/english/seminole ;).
  we cook together,
but he washes all the dishes.  :)
he composes music and i create art.
when it's time to make more encaustic medium,
he patiently melts the wax and damar resin for hours.
today i got a ticket for not coming to a complete
stop and he offered to pay for it.
he is so patient with me.
i could go on and on,,, but gosh,
he is an awesome husband and friend.

roadside wildflowers

Nits & Lice (or Hypericum drummondii)
Love the whorled petals!

Even the tiniest bloom is worthy of notice. :)
Dotted gay feather
Blue sage
Missouri goldenrod

These are not the greatest pictures but I wanted to keep record of
wildflowers that I found just driving and walking through the wildlife refuge
last Friday. These are all hardy blooms to show their beauty in the
heat of August with little rain...
I'm still lovingly :) adding EVERY southwest Oklahoma
wildflower to my big bouquet of mini watercolors.

I hope your week is off to a great start...

Stay rooted and grounded in love.

rain in the altar

early morning i headed to my special "altar rock"
on the east side of prairie hill.

i like to go there after a good rain
because i know the basin is full of a blessing
so i sprinkle my head and soul
and i feel grateful to God for
this refreshing...

zody shows altar rock and kneeling stone.... :)

one more thing, i got these earrings at the apache rattlesnake fest
a few years ago and never wore them. i think they'd look better
as necklaces. i'd like to give one away to a friend.
any comment great or small and you may be wearing
a dream~catcher around your neck soon. :)

love and peace and blessing
to your new week.

august days

i like to visit this snake tree
clouds like flames in evening sky
i was thinking about something while in the wildlife refuge...
it's not about our fancy cameras or apps,
it's not at all about us -
nature needs no help.

i take a picture
and nature takes my breath away.

time to fry some okra
i saw a funny ad for a chocolate store while in New Orleans:

"chocolate is nature's way of making up for okra."

i had to chuckle.  i love me some chocolate
but i love me some okra too!
it's an oklahoma summer staple!!

i've been water-coloring some new flowers
and re-painted some that didn't look right.
i liked the honesty of a friend who
told me i could do better.  i agree.

i hope to share a ton of flower pictures tomorrow.

i hear rain and thunder!
hope you are having a good weekend.

be possessive about the cigarette buts laying on the bank....

Mount Scott

we went (drove) up mt. scott last evening. we can kinda see our house below,,,
between lake lawtonka and lake elmer thomas and to the left of hwy 49.
i can see 'prairie hill' too.

it looks like this on the west side of the mountain.
you can see more of the wichita mt. range and
some of the rugged beauty of 59,000 acre wildlife refuge.
i've roamed all over this range ~
 i've experienced so much
in this sacred place.

on the north side of the mountain there's a river of rocks!  is this not amazing!?!
it's so powerful and stunning!

mt. scott from the neighborhood
i love my permanent neighbor to the west.
ancient, powerful and mysterious.

Elk Mountain Hike (Rattlesnake Included)

 Hiking on Elk Mountain
Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge
Bush clover, (grows Aug.-Oct.)

Slender day flower
Deer on the ridge.
Perfect niche for a Hackberry Tree.
Helen between the rocks.
Granite Beauty
Young Diamond Back Rattlesnake
Ohhh, we encountered a rattlesnake. It blended in so well and lay so flat that I passed right by it!
Helen yelped and jumped back when she saw it. It never moved and the rattler was curled underneath it.
Cedar Remains
Resting Spot
We could see "Apple & Pear" below us,,, further down is the Valley of Boulders.
A small nature ampitheatre!

I spy a cairn!
Other side - I want to get to that cairn!
I like finding other people's cairns on trails (or off trail). Whoever put this one together was quite
the climber. The boulders were way huge and smooth.  Not sure how they got up there,,,,

Natural Bridge
Me on the Arch.
Violet wood sorrell (blooms twice a year)
Curly cup gum weed

Leavensworth eryngo
This was a wonderful hike! Several new flowers to add to the watercolor collection too. :)
