Bittersweet Memento

a friend gave me some of her plants when she moved away
a couple of years ago.  we planted one of the large cacti in the front yard and
it had the most exquisite bloom on it today. four more buds will follow.

the snakes have gone wild.  i saw two at lake lawtonka yesterday
and then found this snake molt in my wild back yard this morning.
blue-eyed grass
tornando memento
greg cleaned out more tornado debris from the grill of his car,,,
and it's crazy how this 1984 check from Moore ended up
with us in Medicine Park, Oklahoma.

it's a bittersweet memento.

Italian Stone Pine

The Italian Stone Pine
Inspired by the beautiful native trees I saw in Italy.

This Lilac was a commission from a few weeks ago.
Don't think I ever shared it.

I just love trees!

monday - one week later

prickly pears in bloom
tiny frog
working on a musical illustration
'where's charley?'  (papercut)
roadrunner w/prickly cactus (encaustic photo)

the vegetable garden is slowly showing more green.

we drove through Moore today as we headed toward OKC.
the tornado wreckage in Moore was awful. one week ago...
greg & i looked over at the warren theatre from the hwy
and we shuddered to think he was in there with his sons.
after shopping in OKC we headed to the Norman,
to meet up with his sons and watched the new star trek film.
have a good week everyone.

il viaggio

'il viaggio I'   (encaustic diptych on panel)

'il viaggio II'   (encaustic on panel)

il viaggio means 'the journey' in italian.
i started this triptych before greg & i traveled to italy.

i finished it a couple of days ago.
however it ended up being a diptych and a single panel.
it just wasn't flowing as a threesome....

i don't remember which flowers came form home soil or,,, elsewhere.... :)
and the idea behind 'il viaggio' is about taking a far away journey -
over the ocean - to a romantic and beautiful place and enjoying all things.

 a wise person said:
"Traveling is leaving your comfort zone."

we're planning another special trip....
so exciting.

Let's learn shading
I think David likes my designer briefs!
A little comic relief.
Had to make the art lesson PG for my 7 1/2 year-old student.

(Michelangelo would have laughed.)

an unusual dream

our little yucca in bloom!

i    l i k e     w h e n      t h e      p r a i r i e      i s      p e a c e f u l ....

An unusual dream this morning:
I saw "seeds" that looked like giant individual dandelion seeds.
I picked them and they turned into animals (as I planted them?)
I'm 100% percent sure they were caribou.

I had to look this up, and according to dream symbols a reindeer signifies:

These dignified animals in your dream forecast a surprise gain.
You are likely to recover something you thought lost (possibly a forgotten loan)
or to discover that something you thought worthless is, in fact, quite valuable.

I  came across giant dandelions on our walk this evening.
Like the ones in my dream - I'm still looking for the caribou.

I know this is random, maybe the tornado has made me slightly strange....

my husband survived a tornado today, 3:24pm

greg and his two sons were inside the warren theater in moore, oklahoma
grabbing a bite to eat before the star trek show when the F5 tornado was heading
toward them.  they sheltered in the hallway and thirty minutes later came out to the
scene above.  that's greg's car covered in house insulation and other debris.
other cars were hurled elsewhere. other buildings and lives were not spared.
as you can imagine,,, and as you may have seen on the national news,,,
it's a nightmare, a horrific slash on oklahoma.

i'm hurting so much over the devastation and the missing people.
and i'm so grateful for the safety of my own family.

greg was inside the warren theater when the tornado touched it
at 3:24pm today.  he is home.  he is safe.  his sons are safe.

please pray for us.
oklahoma is hurting.

The weekend:

Volunteered with the Wildflower Tour in the Wildlife Refuge
Hail storm busted Greg's windsheild
Power Outage at our house
Lots of Gardening
Groomed Zody head to toe
Cut Greg's hair
Worked on encaustic

Watched:  The Giant Mechanical Man & A Roman Holiday
(on oldie and a new film - both wonderful!)

This collard lizard showed up in my zen prairie plot.
I hope he decides to make his home here.
Warm rocks, lots of foliage for hiding, a saucer full of water,,,
and he can eat his fill of bugs! Why wouldn't he want to stay?

Happy Week To All!

a blanket on prairie hill

early this morning i noticed another color on prairie hill mixed
in with the bright yellow... from the backyard it looked orange.
i grabbed the camera and headed for the hill.
