ART: Studio Play

Tiny things in my collection waiting for the right moment....

Roman pebbles, feathers, bone, tooth, diamond, cameo, silver stars
Rattle, Hansel und Gretel, baby scorpion, tarantula fangs
Clay hand inspired by Frida Kahlo's earrings...
I have some odd things in my studio, probably nothing compared to
Joseph Cornell's curiosities... but I have my own...

Do you have an unusual collection?

  1. OH yes, some very odd things indeed have landed in my studio... many of them from my mad scientist grandfather, like a sheep's placenta encased in resin, and I grew up with a pair of shrunken heads in the bookcase from the Amazon. My mother always questioned how I got to be so unusual, well, I thought maybe I was right in line with the rest of the family... what other kid's house was full of shrunken heads and sheep's placenta?

    1. Well, that is definitely crazy odd - growing up with the shrunken heads! Yikes! :)

  2. Haha, yes, I have also an odd collection. A little box with Sunny's milk teeth and I collect all his whiskers that I find :)

    1. Oh! Sweet. I think I've only ever found one of Zody's whiskers.

  3. That's a great collection; especially the strange things, like the hand and the fat, naked little doll. I love strange collections like this. I must admit to having a giant one myself but I excuse it under the guise of photo props. Boy, collecting photo props lets you get away with with murder and all you have to do to justify the collection is photograph it once in a while and sell an image here and there...lol. Works for me. :)

    1. Veronica - The fat naked doll is a jest on my part - It's the famous prehistoric Venus of Willendorf sculpture, but I've given her a 'pretty face' - because she basically doesn't have one.
I bet you have a great collection of props! How fun.

  4. You've got a lot of beautiful and odd goodies there!
I like the snake rattle. And, of course, the Frida hand.
I might have to line all my weird things up. This doesn't fall in to the hoarding thing, does it? ;)
    Have a fun weekend!

    1. I would love to see your line up, Lynn! These are mostly the items that will go under the wax - except for the hand and rattler. I have a turtle skull that I'm especially fond of,,, and some other animal skulls. We are curiosity collectors. :)
